“Feels Like”

Another artist that I admire is Emmalyn Estrada. The moment she released her single “Feels Like” and the accompanying music video, I was instantly inspired.

Just like all pieces of art, what I love about music in particular is that how a song is interpreted by one person can be totally different to how someone else interprets the song. “Feels Like” to me explored the struggles of letting go and the feelings of sorrow and loneliness that continue to plague your very existence.

Using elements from the video such as roses and mirrors in my own piece, the softness of the roses juxtaposes the cold, hard chains. Reflecting on our own lives, there’s a sense of being trapped by your own feelings when you are stuck living in the past, almost as if you can never really move on until you break those chains and release yourself from these feelings that are holding you back.

I’ve been dreaming of what it feels like.
